In Memoriam

Jesuit Father Charles A. Hofmann died on Aug. 20, 2017, at Colombiere Center in Clarkston, Michigan.  He was 84 years old.

Fr. Hofmann was born on March 22, 1933 in Cincinnati, Ohio.  He entered the Chicago Province of the Society of Jesus on August 8, 1957 at Milford, Ohio.  He was ordained on June 9, 1966 at Bellarmine School of Theology in North Aurora, Illinois, and took final vows on February 2, 1981 at Jesuit Spiritual Center at Milford in Milford, Ohio.

Before entering the Society, Fr. Hofmann earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in chemistry from Xavier University.  As a Jesuit, Fr. Hofmann earned a doctorate in clinical psychology from California School of Professional Psychology in San Francisco, California (1975).

During regency, Fr. Hofmann taught English and chemistry at Colegio San José Arequipa in Peru (1961-1963).  He was a student counselor at St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati (1968-1972) and, after finishing his studies, Fr. Hofmann counseled many people as a clinical psychologist at: Loyola University Chicago Medical Center (1975-1978); Archdiocesan Consultation Services in Cincinnati (1978-1980); House of Affirmation in San Francisco (1980-1985); John Carroll University (1985-1993); Loyola University Chicago (1993-1995); Jesuit Institute for Family Life Network in Los Altos, CA (1995-2003); and based out of the Faber Jesuit Community in Cincinnati (2003-2015).  In 2015, Fr. Hofmann moved to Colombiere Center to care for his health.
