In Memoriam

Jesuit Father Theodore E. A. Brady died on June 18, 2015, at Manresa Hall in Philadelphia after a long illness. He was age 84 and one day shy of his 54th year as a Jesuit priest.

Fr. Brady was born on September 18, 1930 in Pittstown, Pennsylvania. He was the only child of the late Edmund Brady and Cecilia (Hogan) Brady. After graduation from Scranton Preparatory School, he entered the Jesuits at the Novitiate of St. Isaac Jogues in Wernersville, Pennsylvania, in 1948. He received a bachelor’s degree in classics from Bellarmine College in Plattsburgh, New York, and a master’s degree in teaching classics from Fordham University in the Bronx, New York. He completed his theological studies at Woodstock College in Woodstock, Maryland, and was ordained to the priesthood on June 19, 1961.

Not long after ordination, Fr. Brady began his 25-year tenure at Georgetown Preparatory School in Bethesda, Maryland, from 1963 to 1988, and then from 1989 until his retirement in 2009. He was then an assistant chaplain at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.

He taught Latin, English, speech and theology to all grade levels, as well as serving as an admissions officer for the school. In addition to his assignments at Georgetown Prep, Fr. Brady also took on a variety of chaplaincy roles at hospitals, hospices, penal institutions and inner-city parishes.
