Assignments of the Midwest Jesuits - Summer 2018

Fr. Martin Connell, SJ, has been appointed rector of the Jesuit Community of the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University. He previously served as a professor of education at John Carroll University and as rector of the John Carroll University Jesuit Community.
Fr. Thomas Krettek, SJ, has been named the academic director of the Loyola University Chicago First Studies Program and the dean at St. Joseph Seminary. He previously served as vice president for mission and ministry at Marquette University in Milwaukee.
Fr. Robert Kroll, SJ, has been named the director of spiritual formation at St. Francis de Sales Seminary in St. Francis, Wis. He was previously a theology and French teacher at Creighton Preparatory School in Omaha, Neb.


Matthew Ippel, SJ, has been missioned to work with Jesuit Refugee Service in South Sudan. He previously was in the first studies program in Peru.
Fr. James Gartland, SJ, has been appointed parish administrator of St. Mary Student Parish in Ann Arbor, Mich., for the 2018-2019 academic year. He was previously rector of the Saint Peter Faber Jesuit Community and an area vocation coordinator in Boston.
Fr. Thomas Lawler, SJ, has been appointed administrator of Bellarmine Chapel in Cincinnati. He was previously on sabbatical after serving as provincial of the former Wisconsin Province.

Fr. Richard Baumann, SJ, has been appointed as a province vocation director. He previously served as the co-director of tertians for the Assistancy of Africa and Madagascar.
Br. Patrick Douglas, SJ, has been appointed as the new provincial assistant for vocations for the Midwest Province. He previously served as a regional vocation director in Omaha, Neb.

In an impassioned letter addressed to the whole People of God, he calls on the Church to be close to victims in solidarity, and to join in acts of prayer and fasting in penance for such "atrocities".

September 4, 2018 — Let us pray in thanksgiving for the life of Father Robert J. Welsh, SJ, who died at 9:15 a.m. (EDT) on Thursday, August 30, 2018, at Colombiere Center in Clarkston, Mich. He was 82 years old. May he rest in peace.

August 29, 2018 — For most of his life, Fr. Kevin Embach, SJ, had two desires: to practice medicine and to serve God.

August 27, 2018 — Twenty-six Jesuit novices in Canada and the United States, including seven men from the Midwest Jesuits, professed first vows of poverty, chastity and obedience this month.
